The Fifth Month (Av)

The name of this month is Babylonian in origin. It is the only month which is not named in the Scriptures. “Av” is regarded as a less joyful time, due to some of the darkest events in Jewish History occurring this month.

There are no “Appointed Times” this month, aside from a Rosh Chodesh and four Shabbats.

Please do note however “Tisha B’Av” the 9th of Av. This is traditionally a day of fasting in remembrance of the destruction of the First Temple in 586 B.C, (see Yirmeyahu 52vs4-13) and in 70 A.D, on the same date, the destruction of the Second Temple. Many other persecutions have come against Elohim’s chosen people on this day.

See Zechariah 7vs3: “And speak unto the priests which were in the House of the Lord of hosts, and to the prophets, saying; should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years?”…....

May all people repent and turn to Adonai and be His people, that persecutions may end. May Elohim have mercy and protect what is His. We have hope in the Messiah, the Good Shepherd; Psalm 23vs4;

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me: Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me.”

It is significant that in the end times, fasts will become feasts, and the grace of Elohim will extend to all nations, and they will come to Jerusalem to entreat favour of the Almighty.

Read; Zechariah 8vs18-23 “…thus saith YHVH of hosts; The fast of the fourth month, and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth, shall be to the house of Judah joy and gladness, and cheerful feasts; therefore love the truth and peace…”
